Listserv and Electronic Communications Policy

Recognizing that good people may arrive at different conclusions regarding controversial topics such as politics and religion, Troop 4’s communication tools should not be used to promote individual political or religious views with which others may disagree.

Operational Policy:
* The Troop 4 listserv and any future electronic information resources and communication systems (electronic systems) shall be used primarily for BSA-related purposes.  Users have the responsibility to use these electronic systems in an ethical, lawful and appropriate manner.  Examples of appropriate use include (but are not limited to):  addressing sanctioned BSA activities at the troop, district, council and national levels, Mic-O-Say, and Order of the Arrow.  Examples of inappropriate use include (but are not limited to): non-BSA activities, political statements, personal correspondences, and obscene, defamatory, harassing, illegal, or otherwise inappropriate exchange as described under any policy, guideline, or standard of BSA.

* Use of Troop 4 electronic systems is a privilege that can be revoked at any time.  Inappropriate use will be evaluated by the Troop 4 Committee or the Committee chairperson in consultation with Troop 4 webmaster.  Repercussions of inappropriate use will be determined by the Troop 4 Committee or the Committee chairperson in consultation with Troop 4 webmaster, and may include restricted use of the system or removal from use of the system.

* Harassing a person about a perceived offensive electronic communication is inappropriate.  Anyone who feels there is inappropriate use of the electronic system shall bring their concern to the attention of the Committee chairperson or webmaster and not take the situation into their own hands.

* A written letter may be submitted to the Troop 4 Committee as recourse for persons restricted or removed from the system.  Such a petition shall be submitted to the Committee chairperson for consideration at the next regularly scheduled Troop 4 Committee meeting.
